Pootles Design Team Challenge, Week 4, Brightly Lit Christmas

I was very happy to be chosen to take part in the 'October 2017 Pootles Design Team Challenge'. The team have to design four projects using stamps from the Brightly Lit Christmas stamp set, one for every week of the month.

Last week I needed to make a card for my husband's birthday and used the cute box and ribbon stamps to embellish the card. He loved it. Unfortunately, when he was given the card this morning he managed to stain it about 10 minutes later! He slipped on the stairs and the remnants of his Ribena (the only drink our cat doesn't help herself to in the night) flew through the air, landed all over the newly decorated wall, the carpet and only after I had cleared up the mess did I discover it had also landed on the card. The good news is he didn't hurt himself! And the stained card is my reminder not to procrastinate about taking photos.

I used the Christmas Lamp Post Thinlits stamps gift box and bow, plus Large Letter framelits and the Happy Birthday stamp was from the Number of Years stamp set. The gold ribbon is 3/8" metallic ribbon. The beautiful blue letters and mat are Bermuda Bay. I used the new Stampin' Blends pens to colour the boxes and to add a polka dot ribbon trim. They are amazing pens, much much better than the Zig pens I have had in the past. If, like me, you don't like to take your inks out of the craft room, so easy to work with without fear of making a mess. I am really looking forward to getting creative with these pens! I used heat embossing to colour the box ribbons.

I discovered something whilst making this card. I learnt that the Stampin' Up! acrylic blocks make stamping so much easier than the store bought ones from my pre Stampin' Up! days. I didn't think that would make any difference at all BUT they are thicker which means more room for finger gripping and also have indents to assist with holding. I have always managed to splodge a bit of ink here, there and everywhere whilst card making which means my bin fills frequently but this time I made no 'surprise design feature ink patterns' at all! Those blocks are worth every penny!

Thank you for reading my blog! I hope that you will come back and see the other projects that I have come up with using this stamp set and it would make my day if you would subscribe to my blog too!

Have a creative day!

Love, Linda x
